BOOK REVIEWS
This page is for me to add reviews of books as and when I read them, and as and when I find time! I'd REALLY like it to be interactive, though, so I'm also adding comments and ratings boxes under each book so anyone else who reads it can also comment on the book and leave a rating here. That way we can get a consensus on the books! If anyone would like to write a book review for me to put on here, that would be great. Email the review to me, and I will add it and credit it to you, and link to your page if you have one : ) Most of these books are available through the Exeter Astrology Group library, and there is a list of the books here.
I'm currently reading - Saturn in Transit: Boundaries of Mind, Body and Soul by Erin Sullivan (12th Feb 2008 -)
Published by the Centre for Psychological Astrology, this is a transcript of 2 seminars held in 1996 by Liz Greene and Juliet Sharman-Burke. In the first part of the book, the first seminar, Juliet Sharman-Burke puts across a wealth of useful information about counselling techniques for use in astrological counselling. This includes how to listen properly (harder than it sounds!), how to word questions constructively, information on transference and counter-transference, how to put across what the chart is telling you in a way that is helpful as well as tactful, some comments on setting up a practice, some useful examples from client sessions, as well as comments and questions from the audience.
In the second part, Liz Greene talks about the history of the role of the astrologer, the archetypal figures we, as astrologers, may associate with, including Prometheus, Apollo and Chiron, and the sense of isolation that the shift in consciousness, caused by our 'illicit' astrological knowledge, can create. She also outlines the reasons behind the inevitable conflict with religious organisations.
I haven't read this book yet, but I just found a useful review of it by Suzi Harvey, on the CPA website here. Has anyone else read it? I think it's convinced me to buy, especially as I'm very interested in the progressed Moon phases and want to follow that up some more. I'll write my own review here as and when!
