Venus is known as an 'inferior' planet, as it between the Earth and the Sun. It is always within 48 degrees of the Sun as viewed from Earth. It is a 'rocky' or 'terrestrial' planet (as opposed to a 'gas giant') only slightly smaller than the Earth, at 12,104 km in diameter. Venus is 67.2 million miles (108.2 million km) from the Sun on average, and takes 225 days to orbit the Sun.
